Komandandi maja

Oled jõudnud Reegi supluskohta, meie matkaraja teise pingi juurde. Siit avaneb vaade Värska Põhjalaagri kõige paremini säilinud hoonele – Komandandi majale. Täna on hoone kasutusel korterelamuna.

The Commandant's House

You have reached the swimming area of the Reek’s house and the second bench on our hiking trail. From here you can see the best-preserved building of the Värska Northern Camp — the Commandant’s House. Today, the building is used as an apartment house.

The commandant’s (camp commander’s) house was one of the few Northern Camp buildings used all year round. For that reason, it was built with a vertical log structure, unlike most other buildings, which were intended only for summer use and were therefore timber-framed. Inside, the walls were plastered; outside, the house was covered with solid wooden boarding.
The camp commander lived on the second floor with his family. Their quarters included two rooms, a kitchen, and a guest room. A few conscripts were also stationed here year-round to keep watch over the camp. Their spaces were on the first floor: the crew room, the senior NCO’s room, a kitchen, reading and dining room, and a bathroom.
